New Store Shanghai: Fresh Chapter Begins in Centuried Creative Industrial Park Elite Valley

In today’s screen-dominated world, people are overwhelmed by the digital spectacles created by influencers and brands. While many businesses have shifted their focus to the online realm, grado remains dedicated to offering users the chance to explore actively offline. We firmly believe that physical stores are irreplaceable and brimming with potential.

At grado, our stores are more than just retail spaces; they are showcases for aesthetics, culture and lifestyle. Here, users can engage with our design philosophy by feeling the texture of the items, and the vibe of the layout. This multi-sensory experience combines sight, touch, smell, and sound to create a truly immersive and enjoyable experience.

Shanghai’s unique historical heritage, shaped by its geography and history, made it one of the first cities to connect internationally. The blend of global influences with the local Jiangnan Wuyue culture and immigrant history has created a diverse urban landscape and vibrant neighborhoods. The Elite Valley exemplifies this fusion. Originally built in 1876 as a British cargo container yard and later used in 1959 as a warehouse for international aid materials, it was transformed into a creative industry park in the early 21st century. Today, it serves as a dynamic hub for internet, new media, design, and artistic innovation.

In planning the park, YAS DESIGN focused on the user experience, seamlessly integrating and upgrading the functionality of various spaces. They preserved classic elements like the red brick walls, railways, and locomotives while transforming existing facilities into new highlights such as a container café, skateboard area, geometric lawn picnic spots, and graffiti-adorned restroom exteriors.

The park’s design extends beyond visual appeal and functional use. It explores the connection between design and human activity, emphasizing authentic living and sustainable development. This approach aligns perfectly with grado’s philosophy, which holds that “your home tells your story.” We aim to create non-aggressive designs that cater to contemporary needs. This vision inspired us to open our new store in this vibrant, lively paradise.

We infuse contemporary furniture design into the timeless Shanghai-style architecture at the store. The crimson brick walls and arched dome stand as silent witnesses to the unveiling of grado’s fresh commercial vision.

Also, we retain the original warehouse layout, with its blend of cement and steel framework, where the allure and essence of furniture design under the rustic industrial charm are authentically brought to life.

The new store showcases designs that truly meet contemporary needs. Be it modern, retro, minimalist, or Bauhaus, these styles are combined to create cozy and natural interior design, bringing fresh inspiration to any living space. From large furniture to small pieces for personal relaxation, from seating, storage to decor, everything needed and wanted has been thought of by grado, all placed here.

The Omelette Lounge Chair, showcased in our showroom, honors the Bauhaus principle of “form follows function.” It underwent 730 days and nights of design, development, and testing to deliver an exceptional level of comfort.

The Taco Lounge Chair was inspired by Grado’s observation of the growing trend of people relieving stress by connecting with nature through camping. This versatile chair is perfect for backyard camping or indoor camping and can effortlessly blend into different home settings and styles.

As you enter the store, you’ll discover a nearly 1,000 m2 space thoughtfully divided into two levels. The interior layout is meticulously designed to guide you through various realistic home settings, fostering a connection with the living spaces.

Inspired by the creative industry park’s vibrant cultural vibe, we’re excited to host a series of events at our store. Join us as we explore ideas about design, functionality, the concept of home, and the essence of living. Our designers and space consultants will share grado’s vision and look forward to generating fresh insights with you.
